Ocean Diagnostics and Schmidt Marine Technology Partners (SMTP) have collaborated to develop a microplastics depth sampling instrument to collect particles down to 150m beneath the surface of the ocean.
This collaboration signifies an important step in ocean innovation and will provide researchers with the support to solve ocean problems like microplastics pollution.
Current methods to collect microplastic samples at depth are heavy, expensive and exclusive to scientists with access to research vessels. The Manual Profiler will enable researchers to collect and study important microplastics data they otherwise would not have access to.
The manual profiler is currently being designed in Victoria, Canada and will be sent to ocean non-profits this fall for beta testing.
