Ocean Diagnostics, Vancouver Aquarium and Water Rangers Provide Hands-On Wet Lab Experience

In a new collaboration with Ocean Diagnostics and Water Rangers, the Vancouver Aquarium is launching an exciting initiative to empower guests with the knowledge and tools needed to help protect our oceans from water quality issues and microplastic pollution.

Rooted in shared values of collaboration and conservation, the new program offers interactive activities like water quality testing and microplastics sampling in the Wet Lab. Guests will also explore new technology and data platforms to better understand these challenges and address them.

Thousands of amazing animals who call the ocean and the Aquarium home rely on healthy waters to survive. Sadly, human activities like pollution, overfishing, and climate change pose significant threats like entanglement, loss of biodiversity and changes in water chemistry. To stop these issues at the source, decision makers need more scientific data that governments and researchers alone cannot always provide.

Through community science, which provides scientific methods, processes, tools and technology for the public to contribute real data, guests will learn how to help fill the data gaps needed to inform policies that protect our oceans for future generations.

Turning education into conservation action, the new program introduces guests not only to the issues but also the solutions and provides them with the opportunity to access community science tools they can use in their own homes, neighbourhoods and schools.

Visit the Vancouver Aquarium and join us in the journey to explore, protect and conserve our precious oceans. Together, we can all help to ensure a healthy future for all marine life.
